Boots Riley took eight years to follow up Sorry to Bother You, and the reviews say the wait paid off (92% on Rotten Tomatoes off 63 critics). Keke Palmer leads as Corvette, ringleader of a designer-shoplifter crew (the “Velvet Gang”) gunning for a cutthroat fashion mogul. Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Demi Moore, LaKeith Stanfield, and Will Poulter round out the ensemble.
Neon opens the R-rated film in select theaters today. Riley’s funk-surrealist style is intact, and so is the class politics.
